Surplus Provisions has been based in RI since 2012, and in November 2016, we opened a brick -and-mortar location at 721 Pontiac Ave. in Cranston, RI.  We specialize in military surplus, tactical and survival gear.  We are always looking for individuals to help us grow as we continue to expand aggressively into new markets online and throughout New England.  Any open positions we currently have are posted below.

STORE ASSOCIATE - FULL TIME

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Actively greet and direct customers to provide the best customer experience, answering customers’ questions about specific products/services
  • Provide accurate information - Knowledge of tactical, military, survival products REQUIRED (as you will need to be able to recommend applicable products based on customer needs)
  • Ring on the register, report and handle all required transactions, issue receipts, and fold and place product in the appropriate bag following the Retail Store SOPs
  • Conduct price and feature comparisons to facilitate purchasing and cross-sell products
  • Eagerly educate and promote our Join or Die Loyalty program to our customers and inform customers about discounts and special offers
  • Actively process, stock, and replenish products on the sales floor and stock room
  • Keep the store in a clean, organized, and presentable condition
  • Share your knowledge and skills with your colleagues, offering help where needed to build a positive working environment
  • Unload delivery truck, receive, open, and unpack merchandise and label merchandise with applicable tags/pricing within efficiency timeline goals
  • Support and maintain store sales and service goals and standards as communicated by the Store Manager and Company Policies & Procedures
  • Provide customer feedback to the Store Manager
  • Stay up-to-date with new products/services
  • Participate in ongoing training regarding technology upgrades and new systems and attend monthly training meetings

Skills

  • Understanding of the retail sales process
  • Familiarity with consumer behavior principles
  • Knowledge of inventory stocking procedures
  • Basic math skills
  • Passion for customer service and helping people find products that best meet their needs
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of building trusting relationships
  • Ability to multitask and perform in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to lift 40lbs. regularly
  • Ability to climb a ladder and use a step stool
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekend and holidays
  • Ability to pass Federal & State BCI (due to the types of products we sell)

MARKETING SPECIALIST - PART TIME (INTERN TO HIRE)

This position is NOT for data entry or administrative tasks... you will be 100% working in a Marketing role! Be creative... we welcome all ideas you may have! We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, loves what they do, and is able to self-manage.

Learning Objectives:
- Create relevant, exciting, original content
- Create an organized system of recording social media posts, images, titles, etc.
- Manage all social media sites and website blog by posting product, shipment, industry, etc. updates
- Develop marketing campaigns and see them through from inception to completion
- Track performance of marketing

 

What We Expect:
- NO experience required 
- Currently in your Junior Year on track to earning a Bachelor's Degree OR a recent graduate from an accredited university 
- Cumulative 3.0 GPA minimum preferred 
- Enthusiastic, ready to work attitude!

What We Offer:
This is an unpaid internship for three months. At the end of the three months, we will conduct a review of your work and discuss potential employment opportunities. During the three months as an intern, you will be managing several different social media accounts, blogs, and channels. You will have the ability to create original content for these networks as well as bring NEW ideas into our Marketing Strategy. You will develop Marketing Projects, implement them, and track their performance. Hours: 15 hrs per week with flexibility for student schedules
